Phase 02 · Ideation

Design

Options, not an option. Costed at three budget levels, sequenced across three horizons, and tested against what the business can actually absorb.

Objectives

What this phase is for

  • Connect the understanding of the problem into a phased approach
  • Budget the scenarios so the cost of each path is visible
  • Test the plan against real operating capacity before anyone commits
Phase 02 of four. Every engagement starts at Understand unless you already have the problem written down and agreed.

Method

How we work through it

We use what the problem needs. Nothing here is run for the sake of having run it.

Solution think tank

The whole team in a room on your problem. Diverse backgrounds are the point: finance, commercial, operations and design argue it out.

Process mapping

What happens now, drawn honestly, so the change has somewhere to attach.

Financial modelling

Scenarios with the cash consequences attached, so options can be compared rather than argued about.

SWOT & option scoring

Each option assessed on the same criteria, in the open.

Capacity testing

Designed to the business you have, not the one an org chart describes.

Outputs

What you get

  • Three budget designs: base, mid, and fully optimised
  • A phased plan across short term (0 to 3 months), mid term (3 to 12 months) and long term (1 to 5 years)
  • Financial models behind each scenario, handed over live rather than as screenshots
  • A recommendation, with the reasoning shown

Who is involved

The problem owner plus finance, and whoever will have to run the change. Two to six weeks depending on the modelling.

The decision point

You can stop here

At the end of Design you own the options and the models. Taking them in house and running the change yourself is a perfectly good outcome, and some clients do exactly that.

The other three phases

Phase 01

Understand

We listen, then we prove we heard you. The phase ends with the problem written down in a form you recognise and would defend in front of your board.

Phase 03

Execute

The design leaves the page. You pick the level of help, from a handover guide you run yourself through to us running the programme.

Phase 04

Review

Did it do what it was designed to do? We measure the return, capture the learning, and say plainly what we would do differently.
