Accessibility statement

How accessible this website is

This site aims to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 at level AA. We believe it currently meets that standard, with the caveats set out below.

What that means in practice

• Every page works with a keyboard alone, and the focus indicator is always visible
• Every page reads, navigates and submits with JavaScript blocked. The script that ships only makes things nicer: it collapses the menu on a small screen, floats the header, and draws two decorative canvases
• Text can be resized to 200 per cent without loss of content or function
• Colour contrast meets the AA threshold in both the light and dark colour schemes
• Interactive targets are at least 44 pixels on their smallest side
• The page structure uses real headings, lists and landmarks rather than styled text
• Nothing on the site loads from a third party, the typefaces included
• The site follows your operating system's light or dark preference, and its reduced motion preference

How this has been tested

Testing during development covered keyboard navigation, the site with CSS removed, HTML validation, reflow at 320 pixels wide, target sizing and colour contrast measurement. An independent audit and testing with assistive technology have not yet been carried out. When they are, this statement will be updated with what they found, including anything that failed.

Known limitations

Two decorative animations run on this site: a gradient behind the top of each page, and a contour map behind the footer. Both stop entirely if your system asks for reduced motion, neither carries information, and both are hidden from screen readers. The gradient also needs WebGL; without it the page shows a still version of the same colours.
